Design of stansted airport

Foster Associates engaged the familiar services of Ove Arup & Partners as consultants at Stansted.
The two firms were already collaborating on the Renault Distribution Center at Swindon.

Adrian Lisney & Partners were the landscape architects, and Laing Management was the general contractor.
Airport Airport noise Airport noise acoustics consultant was ISVR Consultancy Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. Wind tunnel testing was performed at the University of Bristol.
A series of public hearings on Foster’s proposal opened on September 29, 1981, and were held for 258 days
over a two-year period. It was December 1984 before the project was approved and June 1985 before the government gave the final go-ahead.
The team used the two-year delay during the public hearings to develop and compare several design scenarios. When final approval was granted, they moved immediately into detailed design work.
