Castlefield, Manchester

Castlefield is a unique
mixture of Manchester’s
history, containing Roman
remains, canals and railways.

Since 1979 when the area was
designated a conservation area,
work has taken place to open up canals and create pedestrian
connections, restore individual buildings, provide environmental
improvements and street lighting, and create public attractions
and new developments within the existing fabric of the area.
It has now been designated as an Urban Heritage Park and
is a successful quarter of Manchester City.
